About the Films
Presented by Columbia Arts and the Mt. Hood Indepedent Film Festival, Wild Bill's Run is the first in our new film series featuring independent films - many of which were featured at our inaugural Festival.
Wild Bill's Run is the strange but true story of snowmobiling outlaw Wild Bill Cooper. After attempting to lead an expedition from Minnesota to Moscow across the polar ice, Cooper returned home and embarked upon an audacious life of crime. Part Arctic adventure and part crime caper, Wild Bill's Run is an unforgettable ride with a true American folk hero. The film plays like a lost relic from the 1970s. This feature-length documentary includes more than 20 minutes of never-before-seen 16mm footage of the Arctic shot in 1972 and 1973.
Also on the bill, El Ultimo Hielero, winner of Best Short Documentary at this year's Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival. El Ultimo Hielero features Baltazar Ushca who has twice a week for the last 55 years trekked over 10 km in the early morning hours up to the fossilized glaciers of Chimborazo—the tallest mountain in Ecuador. There, he hacks away at glacial ice with a pickaxe and breaks it into blocks, which he wraps in hay and loads onto his donkeys’ backs. This moving story of perserverance and pride is not-to-be-missed.
Tickets are $5 at the door.
