Fruit Mute

By Diane Allen

Copper Buddha? No way.

A pear is a fragrant lady with a big bottom.

This one is neither russet, nor burgundy

But bright red, with a green stripe down the side.

    A freak o’ nature, a mutant …

nice word, like mucus or music or mutation

A pear which wants to be different

and thought this might be the way.

She turned herself into a Christmas ornament

    the fruity old gal!

Diane Allen has won few poetry prizes and published less, but that does not slow her down. She is a political activist and fiddler when not writing. She likes almond croissants and Hop Lava brew.
